Except for the reflection in her eyes in the second shot, it just looks like you've taken a photo with the sun behind your subject. I think you should o future lighting tests either indoors so you can control the natural light variable a bit more, or with the sun in front of your subject.

Horrible glare? Do you mean the reflection in her eyes? Otherwise I much prefer the second to the first. Modle's smile is warm and friendly and the lighting to the side/back brings out depth better and helps frames her face nicely. The reflections in her eyes would be more than acceptable- maybe even better than with no reflection, if they were less symetrical. You see the kind of inverted "Y" ? If it was gone completely I think it would definitely be good. If it were only one spot of light rather than 2, and offset, it might be even better.

Wow you people seriously need real monitors. It wasn't even close for me.

what were you trying do with the lighting, and were you actually in a studio?  If you were in a studio you did a very good job of creating natural light, but if you werent... you should keep experimenting.  The first photo doesnt look lit at all, though the second one looks nice with the light on the side but the front of her face could stand to be just a tad bit more lit.
