So I've been thinking about my Halloween costume (I know- I have 2 weeks but I'm confident I can get it done by then) and what exactly I want.

I've always wanted to be Supergirl, so why not this year to do it? I already found the toughest part of any decent costume- the boots. I just have to paint them (I got them cheap because the costume shop sold them to me used, as the last person scratched the hell out of them).

I've been thinking about it and even pricing the costume it self. I could buy the traditional costume from the same shop used for $25 because there are a couple of minor tears that could easily be fixed. I think this is a bit much... obviously. I might go and talk to them about lowering it quite a bit.

BUT

I've also thought about making my own costume. Maybe even combining a couple of ideas that I found online and creating my own costume from scratch. I'm not sure how much that would cost me... we'll have to wing it there.

Here's some images of Supergirl for reference;

Traditional (from the movie)

The New Comic Book One (I HATE IT!!)

From Smallville (not much of a costume, but why not?)

From deviantart

I really like the belt and yellow borders on this one. However... I am not a belly shirt wearing chick, so that's not happening.

And here's an image where someone on deviantart created several different versions of the costume for render tests (3D modeling). I'm going to be nice and do the link instead of the image as it it's kind long and big);

The boots (or as close as I could find that looks like them)

I'm going to paint them myself, as they are white like the image's.

What do you guys think?

Yeah shorts would be cool. You could even make it into a modern outfit. Perhaps skirt, legging! or shorts and a cute pair of boots.. although finding red boots is kinda impossible unless you go into a kinky sex store. D=

I found a pair, which is almost like the ones I had posted in the original post. I just have to paint them. I refuse to pay more than $15 for boots I'm only going to wear once or twice... and most of the decent ones are up in the $60s.

When you buy a costume and you want to go all the way, girls- remember that the price of the costume itself needs to be doubled if you plan on buying boots to go with it.

One of these days, I'm going to sit down and sketch it out... unless someone wants to have fun or is bored enough to do it for me. I will give points- that's no issue obviously.

What do you guys think about making her wear shorts instead of a skirt?  Or do you think that may take away?

Yeah. I think cute is way sexier than sluttish anyways. Where's the mystery girls... you just put it out as if it was the news paper.

if you do decide to make your costume from scratch i suggest you look at this website http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?board=103.0 they will be able to help you with design ideas, and also with how much it will cost.

I know what you mean. I hate the fact that they've completely turned her into a HUGE sex symbol in the comics. That's one of the reasons why I thought I may try to create my own, because I don't want to be wearing a belly shirt or a freakishly short skirt.
