needs to be explained for it to be appreciated?

I feel like that's just not what i enjoy

I like when on first sight it's impressive not any of that thought into it's actual creation or inspirations

I was told that "i'm not deep enough for it"
made me feel like they were being kinda douchy about the whole thing.

Thoughts? or lack thereof

being told "you're not deep enough" doesn't really mean anything in the art world. That phrase is mostly used as a toll to make art admirers either look smart or look like they understand something. You can appreciate a piece in any manner you like, there really isn't anything wrong with that.

Most people who delve into the deep subconscious of visual art are usually the ones taking the piss anyways, but again, thats what they want to do so let em do it.

If you need something explained to you then it has obviously missed its point...
not necessarily. some people just don't see things in the way they're either meant to, or sometimes at all.

there are a plethora of people out there that lack the mental capacity to pick up certain things, and that goes for more than just offbeat art.
