I haven't hosted an art contest in a good amount of time. I feel that now is the time to do so, especially in an attempt to retain some of the traffic Swift's photography contest may have brought into this forum.

Intent:
The contest is to capture some sort of humanity. Obviously this means that at least one person must be the subject of your piece. I don't care what emotion you're trying to show, as long as you get one. Albeit, I don't want to see 500 pictures of smiling faces. That's not what I'm looking for.

    Rules:
  • Due to the rules of LiveWire, you MAY NOT submit photos of people under the age of 13. HOWEVER, thanks to the graciousness of Allie, aka DoveLove, you may PM the entries to me and they will be considered in the contest. IF YOU DO NOT ABIDE BY THIS RULE AND PLACE PICTURES NOT PERTAINING TO LIVEWIRE'S GUIDELINES IN THIS THREAD, OR CAUSE A FUSS OVER THIS RULE, YOU'RE ENTRIES WILL NOT BE CONSIDERED.
  • Obviously, if there's no human in your piece, it is not acceptable.
  • Any visualmedium is accepted. I have nothing against poetry, but sorting through the tons of horrible poems that may be entered is not worth the few good ones.
  • I DO NOT CONSIDER PHOTOSHOP OR ANY OTHER PHOTO-ALTERING PROGRAMS AS A MEDIUM, AND IT SHOULD NOT BE USED.
  • There are 4 exceptions to the photoshop rule where photoshop may be used: 1) To turn the picture into black and white. 2) To change the OVERALL contrast of a picture. 3) To change the OVERALL saturation of color. 4) You may also crop pictures if necessary.

    Entrance:
  • There is no entrance fee.
  • You may enter as many times as you like, but please alter the emotions. I don't want to see 3 entries of your kissy-faced boyfriend.
  • When entering a piece, be sure to add which medium you used.

    Judging:
  • Each piece will be judged on two qualities; the difficulty of making the piece, and most importantly, the strength of the emotion shown.
  • I often like to judge myself, but I will accept 1-3 others who would like to help judge this contest.

    Prizes:
  • There will be 3 places, and possibly honorable mentions.
  • For now, the prizes stand as 150 for first, 100 for second, 50 for third. But, I plan on giving away all the reward points I have over 2,000. For instance, when this contest ends, if I have 2,642 reward points, I will distribute 642 points to the winners.

THE END OF THIS CONTEST IS SET AT JULY 10TH
I will talk to Audrey and get this up on the contest page.

ONE HUGE THING I MISSED, THE PIECE MUST BE YOUR OWN WORK.
The following would constitute as your own work:
For Photos-
1) You have taken the photo.
2) You are the subject of the photo.
For All Other Mediums-
You are the one who has produced the piece. You may reproduce a famous artwork, or use a photograph taken by somebody else.

If you reproduce a work or use another's photograph, you must cite it using the same format as one of the following:
  • Original (painting) done by (Andrew Wyeth.)
  • Original (photo) by (Andy Warhol.)
  • Original photo by (my friend.)

Anything in parenthesis would be changed to fit the piece.

Since I never bothered to make this clear; when I say a human must be present in the photos, that does not necessarily mean their face.

At this point, according to the contest pages, the prizes are as follows without my point input:

1st Place: 485 points
2nd Place: 359 points
3rd Place: 207 points

I feel that those numbers are quite substantial, so instead of adding my points to placings, I will instead give my points to all of those who entered and did not receive placing. Which leaves the points distributed as follows:

PLEASE IGNORE ALL FORMER JIBBER JABBER THAT WAS PLACED HERE. Everyone who entered and does not place will receive 25 points (not 30), to further accomadate runners-up.

Yes, I am going to bother to send 22 people 25 points because I appreciate the fact that they bothered to enter. The list of 26 people who entered can be found below. If you entered and are not on the list, please notify me.

THIS CONTEST IS CLOSED.
Look for winners within the week.

I know the contest page says it will close tomorrow, but I feel that it has stretched long enough. If you dearly feel that you have a piece that you absolutely need to contribute, then please PM me by midnight tomorrow and I will take it into account.

Oh. Then, yay.

I spent about an hour trying to find a good spot to take the first picture of the crowd. They weren't cooperating with me.

Porcelina Posted at 9:10 am on July 9, 2006
Of course they're good enough. I really like the laughing girl in the corner of the first one, heh.
timize Posted at 12:12 am on July 9, 2006
I hope this is good enough to be entered into the competition. Click the picture to view a bigger version.

Eh, good, I can cite you as proof, Katy.
I knew it was plagiarized, I just couldn't come up with where I had seen it.

last time i saw that picture, it was in some pro-war ad campaign about how nice soldiers are when they're not blowing shit up.

Plagiarism is a crime, you know. I have that picture saved to my hard-drive too, it's from fucking google.
