I've done it a few times with friends. I wouldn't do it in certain places, on my own or at night.

It was amazing, you meet so many cool people (and a couple crazies)... you learn so much more about the area, and we were offered several times by families places to stay, meals, ect. However, you NEED to be careful. I would not do it alone, and we should have even taken more precautions than we did (for example, we should have let someone back home know where we were headed and when we would be there... instead we just went wherever the wind took us that day lol). And yea, I've done it countless times. rickyspeople Posted at 10:44 am on Sep. 9, 2008 more times than i can count. for longer trips i would try and take percautions. i would always text the liscence plate number to my mom or to a friend. i would usually go with a friend, and never at night. and sometimes i would wear a fake pregnancy belly as a rape deturrant, lol. i haven't hitchhiked in over a year because my boy has a car and hates for me to do it. but i had so much fun. you meet so many nice people. mostly when they pick you up it's because they want someone to talk to. of course there is the occasional creepy person, but i've never had a bad experience.
