So, I'm scared as hell, and sort of...want to avoid it. I did something similar 6 years ago...I went to the states for 4 years without knowing a word of English and now you can't even hear my accent anymore, but now that I'm older...it seems scarier.

It seems you are good at languages, so you might pick it up easier than you think, or you could try and get some lessons in before you leave.
