so im 17 about to be 18 in march
im 6 weeks pregnant praying for a boy lol anyway my friend is the father of the kid....long story
he's 20 about to be 21 in june and my parents dont really have a problem with him since they dont really have much to say in my life

well i decided to keep the baby and im moving in with the father but he said he wanted to go out with me and try things out for the sake of the baby

my question is do u think children are better with 2 parents together or fine with both parents not together?

im not sure since neither of my parents were in life until now

The best way a child is happy is if the parents are happy and amiable and able to get along, regardless of what their 'romantic status' is.

It rarely works to "stay together for the kids" and it's a bad idea. You two need and deserve to be happy as well. If you're not, your child will pick up on that very quickly. You can't fake a family.

Both together.

Its best for the baby if the parents are together but if that isn't possible then as long as both parents are in his/her life then it still works out as long as the parents get along with one another

My mom raised me alone all my life... it's tough most of the time so I guess there should be 2 parents in the ideal family but single parents can do just as well. My mom just wanted a baby I guess. :)

It depends on how you both are with each other and the child. If you're always at each others throats but married that's going to be harder on the child than if you both love him/her and get along but aren't together.

The way you're saying it as well, if you're both in his life, doesn't sound like you'll be raising the child totally alone, it'll still have two parents.

I'm not so sure why people are so quick to jump to the 'together' option. It can be so detrimental to a childs well being if you two stay together for the sake of making the child happy. If you two are not happy together, then this is going to reflect on the child. I hate the whole 'staying together for the sake of the kids', its not right because eventually you will begin to loathe each other and the baby will pick up on this and it will have a very negative effect on him/her.

I do hate it when parents split up and the father has no interest. I come from this and it wasn't nice. So i do think its good to have involvement from both sides, but please, please, please do not stay together because you think it will make your child happier because it won't.

As long as he is in your babies life, being a good father and helping you a lot than it's a good situation for the baby.

I think it's better to stay friends than get together and break up (possibly not being as good friends), but if you think there's a good chance for a relationship why not try it?

If both parents can make it work, it's healthier for the child. But single parents can do just as good a job raising a child on his/her own.

It really boils down to the safety, comfort and stability of the household, not necessarily whether the child has both parents.

A single parent who provides the best for his/her child >  2 parents who provide an uncomfortable situation for the child, always.

i mean we're best friends and we both work he goes to school and im going to become a nurse until the baby is old enough then we will both go into the airforce

That's even better! There's nothing greater for a child than having two parents who are responsible and will provide for it. Good for the both of you.

Both parents together are better. But if things don't work out, I think if you at least stayed friends with the guy then that's better than nothing.

i was thinking the baby would be fine as long as we both stay in his or her life but would they be happier if we were married?
You don't have to be married in order to provide the best for your child, marriage is only a ring and a piece of paper. You don't wanna jump into something you're unsure of and if you aren't positive that you wanna marry him, then you shouldn't.

oh i didnt mean married i meant together i just always say married

Oh, well in that case yep, it would be better to stay together BUT ONLY if you both get along.

But really hun it doesn't sound like you have much to worry about. I mean the fact that he actually wants to be there for the child is awesome enough, and you both sound like you'd be great parents. It'll all work out I'm sure. Congratulations btw!!!
