Today in my cosmetology class one of my close friends announced to the entire class of girls that she is almost 5 months pregnant by her boyfriend. And she's only just turned 16 today! I think that's wrong and sick, but I guess it's her choice. After I found that out, I went home and sulked. I don't know why, but now I'm jealous of her because it sounds like she's allowed to have sex and I'm not! I'm the only one I know who is single and still a virgin and I'm turning 17 next month! I find it a bit embarrassing. This girl was my friend, but once my mom finds out what she did she won't let me talk to her anymore! My mom is overly religious and it drives me crazy the way she thinks nobody should consider having sex before marriage. And after this girl made the announcement, she shot me a dirty look and I felt like running away and crying. Of course, I didn't. Do you guys have any advice?

Are you serious? Come on, now. Your mom knows what she's talking about. I had sex at 15, and then a couple months later, I found the love of my life. You know how much it hurts to not be a virgin AND have a 2 month old baby while my fiance is 18, and still a virgin. It's not fun. Grow up, and give your friend a break.

Anyone who says "It's not fair that she's allowed to have sex and I'm not" is not ready for sex. Allowed has nothing to do with it, it's not like her parents are telling her to go out and have sex and your parents aren't. Teens who want to have sex badly enough will have it, whether or not their parents "allow" it. And really, you don't sound like you should be having sex at all. You're completely ignorant of the consequences. Sex isn't like the latest version of the iPod, it's a serious act and it's something that you shouldn't get involved in lightly.

its not your mom's choice whether or not you have sex. go out and do it

You need to think for yourself.  If you think that you want to have sex before marriage it is entirely up to you.  It is your body, but be sure that you are ready.  As far as your friend being pregnant, she has a tough life ahead of her, that's nothing to be jealous of.

If being a virgin is one of your biggest complaints, you have a good life. Bearing a child at that age is a real downer for most people.

That is stupid its OK to not have a bf or have sex at 17, I didn't have a bf and was still a virgin for most of when I was 16 and not 17. So what if your friend is pregnant then you should be supporting her not being a bitch about it.

What's the rush? I don't understand why so many people are so desperate to lose their virginity. It's not a race. Just take your time, and don't lose it just for the sake of it. I'll bet you you're not the only one who's still a virgin - people exaggerate and lie, that's part of life!

Be thankful you don't have the responsibility of parenthood on your shoulders at such a young age - go out and live your life before you get tied down to anything.

Uhh that's an odd reaction you're having and no offense, but it sounds really immature.

The goal in life is not to have a bf and have sex, I think you're overly horny. 16/17 and a virgin is abolutely fine, it's young. To be jealous of your friend who quite honestly will have a really tough time managing to find financial success in her life and be able to care for the kid instead of having her parents raise it is a bit ridiculous. Your mom, as someone religious, should also understand forgiveness and acceptance because those qualities are ones of love. I have no idea why your friend would give you a dirty look, it makes no sense so I think there is something about you that you're not saying. Stop focusing on the wrong things and trying to rush it, just live your own life.

This.

It's normal and healthy to be your age and still a virgin, and boyfriendless. Tons of people are not dating at your age.

Who really cares if she's having sex or not?  You're not and that's fine and that's all that really matters. You don't need to do everything your friends do. Don't be a sheep!

There is nothing "wrong and sick" about having a baby at 16.

 Grow the fuck up.

No, but most at that age cannot support the child on their own either because they're not financially stable, don't have enough time, or because they're just not mature enough. Too often their parents end up caring for the child more than the child's parents are around which sucks for the kid. It takes even more effort to be able to support the kid financially and be around to raise them full time when the parents are young.

... none of which has anything to do with what I said or what the OP said.

I'm 17, single, and still a virgin. I'm pretty happy with myself at the moment...there's nothing wrong with your situation.
