To an ex whom you were friends with up until now, when they got a new girlfriend and still might like you.
Ever since he has got a new girl, he has been saying the nastiest things to me.
(I have depression) and he has been telling me to take my pills, calling me socially inept, saying I'm a freak.
He just changed. I have a bf I really like right now, so I'm not jealous, I just want to be friends.

hes an idiot get over him

It's just that he doesn't have a ton of friends, and the ones he has are into drugs, and his parents are alcoholics and so on... I just don't want him to fall into a crappy lifestyle.

if you keep being nice to him its only gonna reinforce his negative behaviour towards yourself
he needs to see that his negative behaviours are not acceptable

He obviously is trying to bring you down. Maybe he's just jealous that you have a new boyfriend and he sees your better without him.
There are many reasons why he can be acting like that. Ask him, talk to him?

I can kind of relate.  The person wasn't my boyfriend, buy my boyfriend's fraternal twin brother.  He just seemed to hate me for no reason... called me names, obese, anorexic (don't ask me how obese and anorexic worked), a slave driver, obsessive compulsive, the list goes on.

I felt bad ofr him more than anything, and he was a good friend of mine until I started dating his brother.  You can always confront him on it, or otherwise just talk to him about what's wrong.  But otherwise, you either live with it, or you ignore him.  Whatever he's doing, there's most likely a problem in HIM that he's feeling.  Maybe jealousy, maybe anger... and he's directing it towards you since you used to be dating him.  It might go away with time as he comes to terms with himself, or he may just never let it go.  I can understand that you want 'help' him... but a lesson in life is that you can't treat people like shit and expect them to still be there for you, right?  Maybe he needs to learn the lesson the hard way to understand that.
