I have a 18th coming up in a few days time, and I know that my ex will be there because of our mutual friends. Should I avoid it or should I go to it? I don't think my heart is ready to see her, but at the same time, I don't want to avoid a social gathering just because of her.

Go to it. You don't have to talk to her or even look at her. Involve yourself in other people and you won't have a problem.

Sack up and go. It doesn't matter if she's there, it isn't like you're there for her, or will even necessarily have to talk to her while you're their, either.

Go. You have to show her you've moved on.
