"last"? i don't think they can really "last" indefinitely you can make them work for a while but unless you have something to look forward to. long distance is hard and it's often painful, but if you put in the effort, the understanding, make real plans together and trust and commit to your partner, it can work. being realistic is important. being strong is important. believing in your relationship is essential.
This. A long distance relationship is something that is used until you can be together. How long the two people have to stay apart, as well as how definite their plans to be together, will affect the relationship. I was in an LDR for 9 months before my girlfriend and I finally moved to the same state. We're still together now. Had it been much longer than that, I think it would have been difficult, to be honest. Sometimes, love isn't enough to pull a relationship through... and it's hard to change together as a pair when you are apart for so long. So I really think that it depends on the two people involved. Commitment is a must, and if you have doubts, things will fall apart quickly. If both people are dedicated, and they have a clear sign of when they will be together (as opposed to "someday"), I think it's more likely to last. |

| If you enjoy a relationship without regular physical contact, hanging out, chatting normally and sex then yeah, an LDR can work. |

Some do, some don't. It really just all depends on the people, their attitudes and commitment levels and the circumstances surrounding the relationship.

| If you both are willing to make it work and you both can remain faithful then yes it can work. It all depends on how much you want it to work out |
