So we can avoid stupid topics like this:

http://www.golivewire.com/forums/peer-yatbibn-support-a.html

Apparantly it gives people a reason to post a thread after a long enough period of time has passed without one being created.

I suggest removing the Fresh Topics Bar option until a certain rank is reached.  I don't have any idea what rank this should be, maybe half-way to getting your bar, or even the blue bar.

Maybe I'm just overly annoyed right now, but this sounds lie a good idea to me.  Maybe some else can add to this idea.

It would be good in a sense to actually teach people how to use the rest of the forum.

But then again, I think the publicity of support topics is what  david is going for, there have been ideas before which suggest that DTRM topics should not be put onto the Fresh Topics list, which is possible in a sense, but in that very same sense it is limited to sections of LiveWire (Teen, Dorm, Tech) so it knocks off most of the ones that would be looking for support as well.

I personally like the idea of being able to select the sections you would like to view, and having it preset to include all new topics.

Fair enough.

Is there a limit to how many topics can be created by a member per day until a certain rank is reached?  I could settle for that.

Because that wouldn't solve the problem mentioned in my previous post.  It's not me getting annoyed so much, as trying to avoid unnecessary threads.

I understand what you're saying, but removing it from people's view until they reach a certain rank isn't really going to help either. I mean the girl that you mentioned in your OP has already made two more topics based on the one that you linked to (I saw the topic before it was deleted). No matter if the Fresh Topics thing is hidden, or if there are FAQs on a subject, people are going to make unnecessary topics, and think they're cool doing so when they're not.

So because you are annoyed, the people who join looking for actually help cant have their posts posted there for everyone to see when that usually is the only place people use to find posts. Doesnt make much sense since the main reason why people join are because they need help...and taking away that feature would make it much harder to get advice, making lw not as supportive and those people going elsewhere to get help. (even though it isnt that supportive as it should be anyways)

I agree. If the OP doesn't like the idea of the Fresh Topics or thinks people are abusing it, why don't you merely turn it off so you don't have to look at it?

ijustdontknow, how many topics do you see in the Fresh Topics that are really looking for teen-support?

Not many, but still...this is a support site so if by chance someone joins for it then their topic gets ignored cause its not seen by anyone, cause we all know most dont even check out the forums, would cause that person to not like the site and just cause a build up of novice accounts cause they just leave cause they dont get help.

I disagree, you're just annoyed, the Fresh topics bar is the bast thing in this place, except for noodz

The topic I linked to said

"LYKE OMG ITS BEEN ALMOST 5 MINUTES WITHOUT A FRESH TOPIC

SO HERES ONE LOOLOLOL!!!"

I'm just saying with a feature like this, people would find it harder to be concerned with how far apart each topic is made.
