A forum created solely for the purpose of discussing ethics and morality, in regards to controversial practices, such as abortion, torture, etc and hypothetical situations questioning human nature. There is a plethora of topics that could be made in such a forum, and I believe there are questions that could be asked that have no real place in any of the forums listed, that would fit in an ethics forum.

So, I am curious LiveWire, how would you feel about such a forum?

It'd be easier to just make one called "Laws and Government" or something, all of those things are topics controlled by the government that is either accepted or rejected by law. It's different from politics and really doesn't have it's own place.

This would be smart.

No, because laws and government do fall under politics, generally. Ethics and Morality would cover a broader spectrum as well, as opposed to limited to simple legal issues.

But the topics of capital punishment and abortion ARE legal issues.

Those are examples, it wouldn't be limited to those issues. What about issues such as abortion? What about the questions such as, "If you were in a burning building and had to pick someone you cared about, who would you pick?", in essence, it would be to discuss what is right and wrong not being limited to any one topic.

Wouldn't that fit into the philosophy forum, which already exists?

No, because philosophy is not the same as ethics, ethics is a branch of philosophy, but than again, philosophy already overlaps a number of other forums on this site, because it is such a general term, that branches are listed independently.

For example, the political forum would not exist, nor would the science forum. If you would really like to think about it, philosophy encompasses all the forums, because they are all comprised of opinions and beliefs. Philosophy isn't limited to what it is normally associated with my friend.

I think that's a good idea. At the moment, the only place for such topics is religion & philosophy, but that leads to confusion between personal ethics and religiously dictated values.
