Oh, I don't think the number of racist people in the US, UK, Canada, and Australia is nearly as high as the threads in the race forum would lead you to believe.  A lot of the people who throw around the word nigger, talk about how black people are ugly, etc. are essentially trolls.  There are some genuine racists, but generally the more genuine racists don't make absurd statements to piss people off.  They may say some questionable things, but usually they don't do it for attention like the trolls on that forum do.  Either way, being racist isn't against the rules - in fact, I believe it's good to openly discuss that kind of thing.  It all depends on how it's presented, and a troll will do it in a way that pisses people off. That forum made me realize many things: a lot of people can have different ideas about race and still not be racist or an idiot. The race forum attracts a lot of trolls of course. But some ppl brought up a lot of ideas and even if we disagree it doesn't mean they are bad. For example even the racist ideas and threads make me realize that you still have to teach ppl about tolerance and history and real facts which ppl may not know about. Even the non-racist ppl can realize that there are things they dont know or were prejudiced about. I mean even if a lot of it is trash its important that ppl see that some racist ppl exist and that some ppl are still ignorant about race (even if they are pretending or they are trolling). If the mods do their job and recognize trashy topics and trolling and weed that out the way (like when ppl break the forum rules) then it would be a better forum. If the mods just want to do nothing and let racist trolls rule the forum and dont respond when things are reported (like I seen happen often) then they get the forum they deserve. The idea of having a forum at all is not just to organize the forums by dividing them into different subjects, but also to promote discussion regarding a certain topic. People look through the list of forums and they'll see a forum regarding race and nationality, which may intrigue them to look further and eventually culminate into that person making posts about race and nationality. People generally don't think outside the box and post something not covered in the list of forums - hence why you don't see many topics about history for example, though they often come up here and there as it is a fairly popular subject. It's reasonable to assume that posts regarding history would increase if a history forum were introduced. The same applies to race and nationality, as well as all forums. Canning the race forum and sending all topics pertaining to that subject to the political forum would thus discourage posts about race and nationality, which is a pretty worthy topic, in my honest opinion. It's pretty bad right now, but so long as there's activity in the forum (and there's plenty of it in the race and nationality forum), nothing's beyond redemption. It just requires a fairly active moderator telling these idiots to GTFO with clearly defined rules, stricter moderation of these rules, etc., which promotes more intelligent discussion as suddenly much of the stupidity of the forum is removed.
