Does anyone else feel as though their families can make nasty comments, do hurtful things, and still expect you to love them because 'blood's thicker than water'? I'm in this situation at the moment. Basically, I'm going away to Uni on the 13th (can't wait lol), and the family want me to come home for Christmas despite all that's happened: mother not giving me any privacy by rooting through my things all the time, then * getting drunk, outing me when I was 15 and getting abusive about it, bitching about me to my nan then sucking up to me when she wants me to do something for her, lying about my nan not actually being my nan, and just never appreciating the fact that I help keep the house tidy unlike her perfect son who does nothing. And who she'll praise, even though he is a complete racist and has called her all the names under the sun before.

The last straw came today when my brother kept calling me a dyke. Clearly she has told him. I'd rather be alone at Christmas than put up with her and my brother's constant abuse.

Yet we all know that she'll bitch to my 'nan' about me being selfish. Ahh! I hate them all.

* She gets drunk all the time.

Not me personally.

But if your family does something hurtful, then it's justified to pull away from them. That saying doesn't mean family should be forgiven for everything; my uncle's an adulterer and we've severed ties with him. When they say "blood is thicker than water", they mean that your family is more likely to stick by you than anyone else...so long as your family is a supportive one, that is.

Ugh. My parents bully me all the time... Like I'll say something completely serious and they LAUGH AT ME and generally treat me like shit. And then they expect me NOT to hole myself up in my room... Like I want to be with them all the time. I hate it.

I agree family can be the worse people to fight with cuz they know all your weaknesses. If it bothers yuo don't go home for X-mas. Ignore them.

Yeah. My family outed me at 13 then gave me a couple broke down cars as if to say "Don't say we never do anything for you" when they bought my 16 year old sister a brand new car and made sure she had everything she needed for it. I hate my family.
