i'm 17, and i know that it's not very likely for a 17 year old girl to have breast cancer, but i noticed that a little spot that's been on my areola is now more of a reddish color. it's been there for a few years. and when i feel my right breast, it feels kind of like, swollen almost, at the bottom right of it. and the nipples does a weird crinkling thing so it's kind of inverted, but not really. and the shape of it turns almost square at the bottom when i lift my arms up to see if it changes shape. something just doesn't feel right, too. like, i'm constantly touching them and whatever (not in a gross way) and it just feels different, and i just feel like something's wrong.

how likely is it that a 17 year old female would ha e breast cancer, and what else could it be?

in the past couple months i've gained weight, but i was this weight before and didn't have this problem.

i'm afraid to go to the doctor, because if it's nothing, then i just embarrassed myself and wasted my time. mamograms look like they hurt and i'd once again, be too embarrassed to go. i don't know what to do, and i don't even know if it would be cancer, or what it could be.

You should never be embarassed to go to the doctor for a check-up. Usually, a gyno would check you as well during a visit. It's not a very high chance you could develop breast cancer this early, but doctors tell all women of all ages to always be aware of it and do breast exams monthly.

its really unlikely for a girl your age to get breast cancer but then again theres always a possibilty. especially if there's history of breast cancer in your family.. perhaps your still developing and that could be what your noticing.. but if your worry just go to the doctors. its nothing to be embarrased of.. better safe than sorry!

Honestly, you should go to the doctor. As you said, it's rare for seventeen year olds to go through this so I highly doubt anyone on LiveWire has good advice for you.

The best advice we can provide is that you need to see a doctor. A mammogram might hurt, but you should always be safe. Even if it's not breast cancer it could be something else, (A cyst, perhaps?) Either way it needs looking into.

Please don't be ashamed, just get yourself looked at.

Don't be embarassed, even if it's nothing. You're in charge of your own health, and you need to get it checked out. A mamogram may not be necessary, but get it checked out.

you can get breast cancer at any age. you should go to the doctor and shouldnt be embarrassed because you are worried about your body and your health and that is normal. i think you should go get checked out by a professional and not ask these people on here. they may steer you wrong
