But you should break up with him.  whether or not it is a sexist double standard or not, a guy really is only allowed to hit a girl when she is endangering him or someone else, I.E. self defense. So break up with him, over the phone, because an abusive boyfriend does not deserve the dignity of a face to face breakup.  Tell him not to ever come by your house, blah blah blah, and then decide whether or not to simply end any part of your life with him and be finished, or report assault or maybe spousal abuse. My parents helped me with the legal stuff, and it all got taken care of. Just file charges of assault against him.
