Protein!
Foods packed with protein, like lean steak, help your body build muscle mass, and the more muscle you have, the speedier your metabolism will be. Plus, protein takes a long time to digest totally, so you continue to feel full for hours after you've left the table!

Following a proper diet, exercise, rest will really help you to improve the metabolism rate. Your metabolism rate will help you burn fats even when you are not doing any workout. Your diet should Include Protein, fiber, vitamins, minerals and other nutrients, fruits and fresh veggies is best for(fiber, vitamins, minerals and other nutrients) Do regular exercise and give sufficient rest to the body. Have sleep of eight hours every day to relax your body, following this will really help to improve the metabolism rate of the body.

I really think it's so interesting how people can change the way their body works. I've been underweight most all my life, though I have a lot of family members who are the exact opposite of me. I just remember when I was little everyone telling me how good my metabolism must be. I had no idea what they were talking about!

Wow, I'm learning a lot more from this thread!
Some good information on diets ideal for muscle gain:
http://www.leangains.com/

This is a little bit less friendly to the average person but Peat has a great deal of great research on the ideal dietary attributes for a long, healthy life:
http://raypeat.com/articles/

To put it simply - less estrogen, less serotonin, less polyunsaturated fats, more vitamin e, more saturated fats, more fruits (depending on the fruit), more meats, less grains, less legumes, more selective about vegetables...

I'm not really looking to go on a diet, just enjoy random knowledge.

Both protein and healthy fats generally increase your metabolism - coconut oil is one of the best fats to do this with, you can actually feel it increasing your body temperature.
Another way to boost your metabolism is exercise. And a third way is stimulants like caffeine and tobacco - and also cocaine, meth, amphetamine, but those are illegal.

I cook like everything with coconut oil.
 I swear by it.

Where the heck do you buy it? I've been looking

I buy it at my grocery store. Pretty much any grocery store not named Walmart usually carries it in their health food/organic aisle.

It wont be in a bottle and can be hard to miss if you dont know what youre looking for. Mine for example is in a jar that looks like a nutella jar, because at room temperature coconut oil is a solid. Heat it a few degrees and it becomes a liquid.

It's sad that people still believe the government lies that saturated fat is bad for you. I wonder when people will learn that the government is corrupt and has its own interests in mind, and does not actually serve the people and routinely spreads lies and propaganda?

Eating every 4 hours also works, keeps your body burning energy.
I don't know about that, I think that's a misinterpretation of intermittent fasting stimulating the metabolism

An extensive review of studies on various meal frequencies and the thermic effect of food was published in 1997. It looked at many different studies that compared the thermic effect of food during meal frequencies ranging from 1-17 meals and concluded:
"A detailed review of the possible mechanistic explanations for a metabolic advantage of nibbling meal patterns failed to reveal significant benefits in respect of energy expenditure. Although some short-term studies suggest that the thermic effect of feeding is higher when an isoenergetic test load is divided into multiple small meals, other studies refute this, and most are neutral. More importantly, studies using whole-body calorimetry and doubly-labelled water to assess total 24 h energy expenditure find no difference between nibbling and gorging. Finally, with the exception of a single study, there is no evidence that weight loss on hypoenergetic regimens is altered by meal frequency. We conclude that any effects of meal pattern on the regulation of body weight are likely to be mediated through effects on the food intake side of the energy balance equation."

Yup. Eating breakfast within an hour of waking up also increases your metabolism.

My mother used to take metabolism pills. Metabolife, or something. Random knowledge that the title reminded me of. *nodnod*
