How often do you, or should you wash your hair? I really can't figure out what's best.

I have thin shit-tastic hair and seriously, if I go for more than a day without washing it turns to absolute shit strings.

It's quite long though. In the Winter it gets horribly, horribly, horribly dry, but still greasy at the roots, but this time of year its gets very oily and by the second day, it looks like complete rubbish...

Maybe it's the shampoo? Wish I had better shampoo. I absolutely cannot use my mom's moisturizing shampoo, I've got enough damn moisture already...

I shampoo my hair every 3rd day. I shower daily, but I just cleanse my hair with cold water and condition the ends and use leave-in conditioner (on days I don't shampoo) or use Dry Shampoo.

I Used to use Redken All Soft, but I just recently switched to Tresemme Split Remedy.. my hair has never felt any better.

lately, probably every 5-7 days. i'll sparingly use a light treatment on the ends of my length in between, i avoid heat. and no, it isn't greasy by day 3 or even 4

Usually about every other day.

The difference between shampoo types are pretty negligible. A moisturizing shampoo doesn't really provide much more moisture than a normal one. Either way you're stripping away the natural oils in your hair, and when you wash daily, it keeps producing more oil to replace the ones you wash out. Of course no one likes oily hair.
I always thought that my hair was just super greasy, it's pretty thick and super long. I started to shampoo every other day (its just my perference), using moisturizing products and dry shampooing on the days I don't wash it. I find that I have less oil in my hair on the second day and I can usually pull off a third day of no washing if I'm being particularly lazy and it looks fine.
Right now I'm using a l'oreal Paris shampoo, a "natural" conditioner by aveno, the fat hair dry shampoo and Moroccan oil treatment. This is some of the best hair I've had in a while. Moroccan oil helps put moisture back into your hair, it makes it super soft and smooth, like shampoo commercial hair... Liquid gold for me. Prevents frizzing, and helps with my flyaway issues too. I put it in my hair everyday.

If you shift yourself off conditioner and find a different type of shampoo, or go what's called "shampoo free" you will find your hair is healthier and you have to wash it less. Your hair is kept constantly dry by shampoos, which it what causes it to get so oily when you only go a day without washing. Your hair needs the oil it produces, and many shampoos strip it.

it's usually the sulfates in the shampoo that ruin your hair. many out there don't have it. i only use sulfate-free shampoo when i use it at all, unless i'm trying to strip hair dye from my hair. otherwise, i use Fekkai conditioner.

I have short thin fine hair daily washing is necessary
Spice Posted at 5:11 am on July 18, 2012
i wash it tues, thurs and sunday generally

its not healthy to wash it all the time and you need to make sure youre using the right shampoos, if any.

your hair needs to have natural oils back into it to keep it nice.

I used to wash it every day, now I wash it about once every 3 days, just using dry shampoo in the interim.
