separation anxiety. He has the classic signs, for those of you who don't know, here is a link:

My boyfriend says when I leave, my kitten claws at the door and won't move away from the door until I do come home. I feel horrid because I don't want him to become ill from this. Anyone have suggestions? My boyfriend entices him with treats and toys, but he doesn't find them very desirable.

Get him a friend?

try having him play with him about 10 min before u leave and not let the kitty see u leave.. that might help alot. and if he is loved on while u leave, he wont think to look for u.

maybe they will pass it with age. My dog is kind of like that. If my mom leaves he just lays by the door and waits... unless its really hot then he goes and mopes downstairs if we all leave he wont eat or drink. its why we can't leave him in kennels when we go away. he's almost 8 though and in almost perfect health ( slightly over weight) so I think your kitty will be fine

try a distraction of something find something he really likes to do and use that before you leave

I know it sounds weird, but you need to practice with your cat. I'm sure you have a routine before you leave the house (grab the keys, put on your coat, turn off the TV, etc.), and your cat recognizes this and probably immediately starts freaking out. What you need to do, is practice the routine. Get your cat in the room and get your coat and everything together and go out the door. Then, come right back in. Do it several times, staying outside longer each time. Your cat will eventually realize that you DO come back everytime you go out the door, and become less stressed. Do this everyday for about a week and it should help. If not, contact me.
