Throughout grade school, we're often presented with a clear picture regarding discrimination: white man discrminating against black man. White man discriminating against the minority. White man using his power to discriminate everybody else. This paints a vivid image in our heads that white people are the racists and black people and other minorities are the victims. As a result, this makes us predisposed to claim racism whenever a white person makes a statement that could be seen as derogatory against a minority. But what you find schools not teaching you so much about is reverse discrimination - the kind of racism that emerges among blacks and minorities as a reaction to discrimination. Often times, you'll get these people justifying this racism simply because it's a reaction, yet one has to wonder - is racism, whether it's a reaction or not, truly justified at all? Especially on those whites who never took part in any kind of discrimination against minorities? As a result of not learning about this view so much, people are often slow to perceive racist and derogatory statements made by minorities. We don't often think of the white person as the victim in any racial issue. Personally, I believe this truly needs to stop and needs to be highlighted far more than it is. Reverse discrimination is as potent, dangerous, and immoral of a force as any kind of discrimination whites have ever brought upon minorities.

Why give an unfair advantage to people claiming to want equal treatment as a reaction to intolerance in previous generations?

Reverse discrimination is rare, and frankly I don't believe it's a serious issue.

Great post. All true. I have witnessed colored people speak of whites very badly...behind their backs. It is disgusting behavior, that they(believe it or not) learn from school.

No, I generally do percieve things like being egged twice for being a middle class white girl and pushed down the stairs for the same thing as being racially abusive. But y'know, maybe that's just me.

I wouldn't call it reverse discrimination, I'd say it would just be considered plain discrimination. Unfortunately, there is discrimination between people of all races/ethnicities. There are even many cases of discrimination between people of the same race/ethnicity, some of which are because of their skin color, light vs. dark. But I agree with you discrimination on any level between any race/ethnicity should be stopped.

it's "rare" because it's not as well publicized. whites are forced to walk on egg shells, many of us can't even approach the race topic irl without fear of being labeled racist, and lets face it, racism against whites is pretty much accepted.

Exactly. When you think reverse discrimination, you think black and white. But the world isn't black and white.

And the Michigan Admissions Exam was a figment of America's imagination when they were caught blatantly giving minorities racial curves to tests for admissions? Or jobs requiring a certain number of minority slots to fill in order to be compliant with growing legal pressures from NAACP or ACLU? Or more federal aid statistically given to people of minority status readily over a lessening White majority? Are these insignificant, as well?

You'd be quite surprise at some of the hate many blacks and other minorities hold against whites. If you ever talk to many black people and you happen to be white, chances are you will run into one who feels that you owe something to them. You'll often run into many whites who think the same sort of things. It's not too uncommon to see groups of minorities telling the white kid to GTFO simply because he or she is white (ie. the white kid sitting at the black table during lunch in the school cafeteria). If anything, reverse racism is just as dangerous as any kind of racism whites may hold, especially considering that it's being legislated via affirmative action and other such laws. In fact, I find a lot of the prejudice whites have against blacks and other minorities is largely due to this fact. In a sense, revese reverse discrimination. This needs to stop and people need to learn that minorities can be just as racist as anybody else if we ever hope to make any kind of racial progress in our society.

Well my school never taught about "regualr" discrmination unless it was in history. So I don't know why it's talked about in your school. PLus any where discrimination is used on job aplications etc. It does not specify..... sooo what ur referring to is what people generally think of when they think of discrimination? That can't be helped, it wasn't that it was taught so much as to what happens more frequently. When's the last time you heard about a white woman being tied up, pissed on, and cut up, by 6 black people?

I completely disagree because reverse discrimination expresses the fact that a minority is racist against a white person as a result of their being discriminated against in the past. Plain old discrimination does not express that. As a result, plain old discrimination does not express the whole story. I do not believe that most minorities would be racist against whites were it not for the fact that discriminatory laws against minorities were put in place in the past.

Seafercat speaks the truth. I've felt pressured to watch my mouth when talking about racism in many classes in the past for fear of being perceived as racist. Yet you'll often find minorities shooting out what they think without a second thought as they do not share that same fear. People are quicker to jump on whites for racism than minorities like it or not.

Hmm, that's an interesting conjecture, there are many different reasons for being racist, and I find myself somewhat agreeing with your reasoning behind this so-called "reverse discrimination." I can see people hating and discriminating against white people because of the discrimination/tragedy that their ancestors went through, however that is not the main case. Although, I have to say that I don't think there is always one defined reason to racism.

That wasn't a question. Besides, I don't think most white people are genuinely afraid of being called a racist. Discrimination exists not only against white, and not only against blacks. The point of this topic is just to try and prove that white people are being more severely discriminated against than any other race. That's bullshit because everyone is discriminated against.

rofl. the point of this topic is to point out the complacency of people regarding white discrimination, isn't is? oh wait, a white person made it, of course there's ulterior motives and underlying digs at minorities

Of course there's no one defined reason, but it's certainly a popular one. If you ever see a black person who feels oppressed by the white man and ask him why he feels that way, he'll probably bring up anti-black discriminatory laws in the past and slavery. Historical discrimination is often a favorite minorities use to justify any kind of reverse racism they have today. Remember, the key idea in reverse racism is that it's reactionary - they're reacting with racism to racism against them, and in general you see them reacting to it by what they know about racism in the past. They have a very difficult time justifying themselves today, especially when we have a half black candidate running for president, so often times you'll see them ignore the present and focus solely on the past.

Depends on your location really. You can find places where White people will gladly say something blatantly racist, and think it's correct. You can find places where a Hispanics will say something racist, and think it's true. You can find places where racism even to the slightest degree is blown up larger than it needs to be. You can find places where things that are very racist are ignored. It really is just location. It's not everywhere that white people are victims, I rarely see it, but I am aware that it happens. Why? Because of where I live. Just like I'm sure there are people who don't see racism against minorities. While I'm also sure there are places where this is not an issue in the very least. However I don't agree that in Grade School we are taught that white people are evil, and racist. At least in my schools this was not the case.

I advise you to go back and reread my OP because that is not the point of this topic. The point of this topic is to highlight the fact that whites can be discriminated against by minorities, too. This is often not focused on in schools, by the media, etc. As a result, whites are often seen as the oppressors when in the reality of today, they are not, and quite often are also the victims. Try going back and quoting where I said that minorities are not discriminated against.

Now that I think about it, I've read something...similar to this on some white supremacist forums, along with some replies. I'm sure there's no reason for this, and just another coincidence in the world.
