Well this one little asshole kid (like 8 years old) is a total terror who steals breaks other peoples stuff ect and guess what his parents refuse to punish him at all because he might have Aspergers. I am so sick of everyone who has a kid who acts up using it as an excuse to not have to do anything with them. Also when the ell did it become trendy for every 14 year old in America who has a little social difficulties to claim they have aspergers and then wear the title like a badge of honor claiming to be super intelligent and use it as an excuse to be royal dill weeds while expecting everyone to pity them while kissing their asses?

Aspergers or not, if someone does something wrong, he deserves to be punished. Okay, if he doesn't know better, then he won't learn, but how are you going to be that lazy of a parent not to discipline a child because he MIGHT have a condition? Seriously, I'd wait and if he broke any of my stuff, first off I'd grab that little shit by his ankles and carry him to his house, then give the parents an earful, and if its anything of value, take them to court.

Any time people can make money off your medical difficulties, it becomes trendy.
-- Posted by SovSull at 3:44 pm on July 3, 2008
asperger's is so contagious that just by reading the wikipedia article you could contract it as a substitute for all the lazy anti social choices you make in life
-- Posted by Warm Apple Pie at 3:44 pm on July 3, 2008
It's not trendy, a lot of people have it though.

Trendy? Aspergers is a serious mental problem. It may take years to diagnose because it is subtle. But how could living in a world where you don't understand anyone be trendy?

I have aspergers, I'm not talking about the people who actually have it, its the people who read wikipedia and claim to have it but refuse to go to a doctor that annoys me.

I thought ADHD was the big thing...man, I guess I'm a little behind the times :/ But no, I know someone who seriously has asperger's, two people in fact, and they really do have a hard to distinguishing the line between social do and don'ts. As for "special treatment" I mean yeah, they need to be in different environments to learn because of their behavior, but they do get in trouble (maybe not punished the same way, but yeah). Although, one of them did have the cops called on him by his mom because he was out of his control...long story. But yeah, I didn't realize asperger's had become a trend at all.

Seriously, it's not.
it is serious in that people with asperger's trade their ability to socialize and read between the lines by being incredibly fixated on mundane details of life, but more often than not its misdiagnosed in people who just have shitty social skills.

And like I said A LOT of people self diagnose.

if you don't mind my asking what are your thoughts on autism pride and the concept of "neurodiversity" in general? there seems to be some conflict between treating asperger's as a disability v. as a different way of thinking.
-- Posted by Dexter Ward at 5:06 pm on July 3, 2008
I view it as a different way of thinking not as a disability.

what happened to adhd and bipolar
-- Posted by iconoclast at 5:13 pm on July 3, 2008
imo aspergers is mostly a stupid excuse for poor social skills, probably for a variety of situational reasons that the stupid parents dont want to admit

I agree most of the time thats the case, while there are people who really have problems with it because their brain is physically made differently. As a rule of thumb most people who actually have serious mental problems don't brag about them.
-- Posted by iconoclast at 5:36 pm on July 3, 2008
it hasnt been shown that their brain is made differently, and even so, they can still develop anyway, it might just take them a little longer same goes for autism, imo whatever the cause its just slower social development, but because of this slower development they get made fun of so it stunts their development when theyre already young, whereas they could catch up by like age 9 if it was done properly

If only it was that easy.
-- Posted by iconoclast at 6:00 pm on July 3, 2008
its obviously not easy, no one wants to put the effort in though

Aspergers...trendy? Asperger's kids are nerdy-awkward little know-it-all bastards, nobody likes them.
