My uncle works at a repair shop and in the parts yard next to it, they have a 1993 Ford Explorer. Mind you of course its not in good shape but assuming it runs good, I might take it. I talked to my uncle earlier today and hes gonna try to find out whats wrong with it. It has quite a bit of dents and scratches but theres absolutely NO rust on it. There will be a few interior pieces that I will need to replace but overall I think it would be a good investment. As far as gas mileage goes, it gets 19 MPG, and my Cavalier gets 21MPG so its not a big loss. My question is... do you guys think its worth the investment? I would rather have a truck than a car.

its a bluddy nice car - i'd have it!! - go for it - u may wanna give yourself a couple of grand extra to personalise it - it may be a car for life!!

19 mpg highway.

with the v6 in it, or even worse, v8, and age, you'll be lucky to see the high side of 15. Get it running, drive it for a bit, then sell it to make a little profit. (Few hundo bucks.)

Might want to make sure parts haven't been taken off it being it a parts vehicle. Could cost more to fix then its worth

I highly doubt that would go close to 19mpg

I know early 90's explorers have bad transmissions.

umm YES deff. get it. Its common sense...even if the car doesn't run still take it. Tow it to your nearest junkyard and you will get a couple hundred for it for the scrape metal...my local junkyard pays $500 for complete running vehicles

If its free yes. As for being better than a cavalier, Hahahaha... not likely, and 19 is very wishful thinking on gas mileage.

Your Cavalier is a piece of shit. It's a Chevy though.

Now you're thinking about, considering rising gas prices, getting something that gets worse MPG. Not only that, but those model Explorers were known to be problem vehicles. Tons of recalls and breakdowns. Not only that, but those look like shit.

Some will disagree but Ford, especially in that era of their company, are terrible. Completely horrible vehicles back then.

In my opinion, you're going from bad to worse. Bad being the Cav, worse being that Explorer.

If it's free, take it. See what's up with it. Get an insurance quote. Maybe you can afford to keep both the Cav and the Explorer and use the truck for random shit such as shopping, hauling, towing, whatever.

Although I wouldn't recommend towing with that.

I'm very    on your vehicles.

Well I decided its not worth it. My Cavalier only needs a starter and a steering column. The Explorer needs way more than that so keeping the Cav will be a better idea.

Jeremy M: Idk what your beef is about my car... I realize it has more rust on it than paint but who cares... as long as it has a good engine. The 3.1s were one of Chevys best engines getting 250-300k miles before serious problems, assuming you dont beat the pulp out of it. My Cav doesnt look like it was maintained on the outside but as far as fluid changes, all that maintenance shit, its up to date and it runs fine. It could probably use a tune up but the thing still runs and has never stalled yet. Not to mention, everything but the horn works on my car, Everything down to the courtesy lights that come on when you lift the door handle.
