I've never heard that expression before.

I don't get annoyed. I just either pretend my parents live together or avoid the conversation.
-- Posted by plumc0la at 9:26 am on July 5, 2008

its not their falt they assume the norm of society.

you cant complain at people for thinking you have both parents. It does take two people to make a child. You should just calmly mention that you only have one, or neither. They arent doing it on purpose to get at you.
-- Posted by hollie midgley at 9:27 am on July 5, 2008
i ignore it
-- Posted by Maxxie at 9:28 am on July 5, 2008
Hmmm why would you get mad at that? How can people know?

-- Posted by cyberpunk at 9:29 am on July 5, 2008
I'm cool with it, mainly because I do live with both of my parents.
-- Posted by greenskittles at 9:29 am on July 5, 2008

Exactly. If you don't have the fucking balls to tell them then don't get pissed at them for assuming otherwise.
-- Posted by Innuendo Girl at 9:36 am on July 5, 2008
Just gently tell them that you don't have two parents. Society is way too diverse to be taking up valuable time playing guessing games about your family situation. When I'm at work and I need to find a kids parents, I don't say, "Where's your mom or dad, or step mom or step dad, or dad and dad or legal guardian" to be all inclusive.

i do fucking tell them!!! gods sake.... its just annoying when people make that assumption and i have tried to KINDLY explain to ppl that i dont have both parents and then the conversation turns rather awkward people should just think about it instead of autiomatically assuming
-- Posted by zamrambo at 9:39 am on July 5, 2008
We assume the norm. Not our fault.
-- Posted by Kankalicious at 9:40 am on July 5, 2008
