when you click cancel if it asks you 'are you sure', it deletes all of them anyway

Yeah, I noticed that too, weird. Report it as a bug on BugWire.
EDIT: It seems like it didn't delete it after all, weird.

it didn't happen to me, in the inbox or the outbox. i'm not trying in storage though.
