Inbox Space: 1064% FULL.

Honestly, does LW even realize how much server space they will save if instead of deleting all messages beyond the limit, they just deleted them as it got full?  When you have 25 messages, everything stays, but the 26th one you receive, but it deletes the oldest one in your inbox thats not saved.  Honestly that would save so much space it'd be mind-boggling... well maybe not that much, but the point is still made.

or you could delete your messages yourself?

Perhaps if space was an issue they'd consider recoding all that shit.

But, as it appears to not be, why bother.  If it ain't broke don't fix it.

I'm not trying to say that I'm incapable of deleting my own messages, I'm saying that it would be sensible to delete them as they go instead of having massive quantities of messages building up then have to delete them all at once once the day is over.

It doesn't have to be an issue of not having enough space, but everything would run quicker, less chance of freezing up, and I understand where you're coming from, of not to change something that works, but if you can prevent it from breaking by streamlining the process, it doesn't hurt.

I delete my messages after i respond and read them

I know what you're talking about.  If it's a possible solution to the slowness that occurs ocassionally, then it should be looked into further.  That may be caused by something entirely different, though.  Definitely deserves looking into, though.

It might, it might not, there are many different reasons why a server slows down/speeds up, but its like doing a defragmentation a computer, if you clean up some of the clutter, the computer doesn't have to do so much searching for the file it needs, same for a server only in increased mass comes increased clutter and increased effect.

well no shit, you think the current system is the first thing he thought of?

some people want to read their old messages and delete ones in the middle

Hence the saved messages feature, if there's a message you want to re-read later, save it, but obviously a message isn't that important if you can't read it before 25 more come.

i meant people like to read them more than once. you have a storage limit, and some messages aren't worthy of storage when it comes down to it.

-- Posted by Themakingofagod at 10:52 pm on July 6, 2008

Well then if they're not worthy, don't save them, and if you reach your storage limit, than the random message you got a month ago from the person you don't even know anymore isn't so important.
