I'm curious as to what information I can get with an IP address?

Someone on Wikipedia made an edit to a page, and I was curious as to the identity of the editor. I've got the IP address listed,  so what can I find out with it? Anything at all? General location? ISP?

ISP and Location only

I find it creepy that you would want to know this

You can get the location of the computer, nothing more.

The last two digits of a person's IP is the amount of lovers they will have in their lifetime.

You can get the nearest location of the distribution point of their ISP. Sometimes it's close (within 30 miles) other times it can be 100 or more miles off. My IP comes back to London, and I live more than an hours drive away from London.

General location.  Sometimes it'll come back to a city that's far as hell away from the actual user though.  You can also use Nmap to portscan him and if he has any exploitable software running you might be able to cause some damage.

Why thank you! That's all the info I needed: now I know that the person who made the edit was full of shit.

Try http://www.networksolutions.com/whois/index.jsp

It's public information but not all info you may want would necessarily be listed.

For anyone who was curious, basically all I wanted to do was see if the person who made the edit lived in one of two locations. They didn't, and therefore they could not work at either of the two companies which would have access to the information he was spouting, so it probably was untrue.

haha
ya can get a broad loc of their ISP
n i also kno a few ways to crash a comp wit a virus wit a close IP ;')
[still in the last of the editin process tho]

What are the last 2 digits?

I wouldn't be so sure.  My IP claims that I live in a city two hours away from the actual city I live in.
