However when times are bad history has shown that there are two safe havens for investors: gold and the US dollar. Likely to get you shot and just as broke. 1. Make sure you have access to clean water. 2. Stock up on honey (it never goes bad). 3. Get silver and gold as they will retain value (dollars and bank accounts, stocks and bonds will not). 4. Get firearms and ammo. 5. Hopefully you have enough land to grow food  if not find some. 6. If you can't afford land learn some skills that will make you valuable to those that have land.
