The same as the other topic, but for the SERIOUS FORUM. If you have any ideas on how to improve the number of replies in there, please post them here. I will check back for the final time in a week, and compile a list to send to David. Please try and put things into bullet points to make this process a lot less complex. Thank-you, guys. You all do a great job and hopefully you'll all benefit in the long run.

As mentioned in your previous topic, I don't see the status of the Serious Forum improving any time soon. It is pretty evident that the Serious Forum is essentially dead, despite how unfortunate that is. I mean, I think we should just scrap the Serious Forum. I think that in regards to the suggestion of separating the Support Leaders into categories and then making that list accessible to all LiveWire members, it will not only reduce the amount of eHelp requests but also replace the Serious Forum.

Scrap it. I see it as pointless, and if we add the ability for the OP to reply to their own eHelps it means there is no real need for it.

I am so mad, I had an amazing post in Feedback + Suggestions about the serious forum, but it got fucked up. So, if I can remember: Suggestions: - Do NOT scrap The Serious Forum.
- Moderators cannot view the anonymous poster in the serious forum.
- Maybe a ticker for only the posts in the serious forum with 0 replies?

Agreed. It's essentially just a more public ehelp.

Why are you against scrapping the Serious Forum? It's dead as it is.

Could we maybe have a system that tells us when there are new threads there like our flashing e-help cross? TBH with everything else i do on livewire I forget to go there. It is nice in theory but not as nice in application it seems. Maybe the answer is scrapping it.

Nikki, yeah, we need to add more of a push for it, like the ticker? You guys are talking about the eHelps, such as the relationship eHelps that aren't really emergencies. Well, what if I have a relationship issue that isn't an emergency? THE SERIOUS FORUM is there for me. Also, this is why I don't want mods to view anonymous.

Lol, I don't think that the Moderators can use their power to see through the anonymous posts unless there is a strong need to do so. However, I am not saying that they particularly do not ever do so.

Alex, we generally don't view IP's, but yeah, I do agree that it would be good not to have that as an option in the Serious forum at all. Unless a post is deleted/moved, but that would be due to trolling, so...not an issue, really.
-- Posted by iwashere85 at 2:36 pm on July 9, 2008
Yes, I know you aren't SUPPOSED to view anonymous in topics unless it is needed, but, I've seen it done.

Well, we can But, the Serious forum could probably be changed to be the only forum where we can't, unless a topic is a flagrant spam.

I'm against the idea of a ticker for The Serious Forum. The way I look at it, it just needs to be trashed anyway. 99% of the threads in there would be acceptable eHelps anyway. It's a nice idea, but it's just not all that neccesary, and creates more confusion and chaos for us. If someone wishes to participate in a conversation with a support leader, they can submit an eHelp and NOT be anonymous. If a poster is anonymous, it means to me that they don't really want communication.
-- Posted by nikki at 3:46 am on July 10, 2008
I just think that we could trash the serious forum, and make it possible to reply to anonymous eHelps without ever revealing their identity.
-- Posted by xoxo1234 at 4:08 am on July 10, 2008
Of course... as it already is, no? However, if The Serious Forum stays, I definitely agree that mods shouldn't be able to view the anonymous posters.
-- Posted by nikki at 4:18 am on July 10, 2008
As it stands, anonymous eHelp posters can't message us without revealing their identity.

Oh, right. Sorry, misunderstood you.

I'm all for scrapping the serious forum for this reason. I never check there, so I don't know when there's new topics and all that. If we do keep it, we need notification of new threads there.
-- Posted by nikki at 7:30 am on July 10, 2008
I think people will bitch at notifications. Maybe we could have serious topics appear as a different colour, maybe blue, in the fresh topics list?

But according to your theme, the font colour in your Fresh Topics list on the side bar will vary.

That's different from having a huge flashing sign like eHelp does. Just have the bubble thing be blue instead of red/green.

That's true. We should add a sign right underneath the eHelp sign. That way, no one can really miss it.

Hm, I don't know. I just think having it pop up in fresh topics as a different colour would do the job. I don't really want another button on my sidebar.

I guess you can do that. Can't we bold the titles as well?
-- Posted by xoxo1234 at 9:43 am on July 10, 2008
We could just add a little emoticon next to it, just like the explicit topics. I find the flashing eHelps annoying enough. Obviously it's good that it lets us know when they're there, but the whole flashing emergency sign makes me feel like a bitch for not answer immediately. I'm not suggesting we change this, but I wouldn't like another one for TSF topics.
-- Posted by nikki at 10:06 am on July 10, 2008
I agree with that. I think just a little notification when they appear in fresh topics would be enough.
-- Posted by Arguia at 12:53 pm on July 10, 2008
Something I have been thinking of is that normal members should be able to have more input... I know at the moment a handful of members have asked SLs to post replies to SF topics for them, but perhaps we should clarify that this is acceptable? Or perhaps (and this might be totally unworkable) normal members should be allowed to reply, but posts have to be approved by mods/SLs before they become visible? Maybe there should be an announcement of how many unloved topics there are in TSF... perhaps in the eHelp section? Just a button saying '2 unloved topics' that leads to TSF... I think there should also be a little message about TSF on the eHelp page... it says about the forums, but not about TSF.

Now, I LOVE this idea. I really do.

I do too. As someone who isn't a peer support leader, I've seen several topics posted that I felt would have benefitted from what I had to say, but wasn't able to post a reply. However, it would have to be strictly moderated (obviously).

i don't think getting rid of it is the solution. didn't david bring it back because so many support leaders wanted it back? the problem with the serious forum is, quite simply, no one replies. more people spend time answering eHelps. why? points? new eHelps are more obvious? figure out why more people are replying to eHelps, apply that as best you can to the serious forum and there you go. really though, there's nothing wrong with the serious forum. more people just need to reply. that's it.
