my computer (windows xp) got automatically updated today and it's really fucked up my computer.. so i need to get the update undone.. problem is system restore isn't working because of the update.. does anyone know any other way to uninstall an update?

you can take everything off your computer and re install xp but then all of the things on your computer wil be lost

Go into Add / Remove Programs in the Control Panel and select "Show updates" (the tickbox). Then you can scroll down to Windows XP and select the update that you wish to uninstall. If it's not listed there or it doesn't work, System Restore is what should be used, but since it doesn't work I'm unsure of what else you could do.

I've never had this problem but this was my thought too. However, try to backup your data if you can just in case.

Are you sure that's because of the update? Check your desktop properties first.

updates dont do that kind of stuff mess with your properties or try restarting your computer if that dont work then ur gonna have to re do everything thats why they say you should back up your computer

I agree with Nikki, it's unlikely that a windows update would cause that to disappear. When you drag your mouse to the bottom, does it appear? Try right-clicking the bottom-center of your screen (assuming that's where you had it placed), uncheckking "Lock Taskbar", and dragging it up. Also, marshmellowman's instructions do not reformat the computer, they just uninstall a single update of your choice. It's not extreme :)
