China is getting more and more powerful every day. Forget Spanish because of the immigrants, how about China which we're going to be trading and working with a whole lot more in the future?

chinese is so different from english, the way they put their ideas together and just their way of speaking and the importance of tonality spanish is clumsy and brute and is best suited for the masses, and there are a huge amount of spanish speakers so we'd be good with either option, but more successful with spanish.

But we wouldn't be. The actual LANGUAGE doesn't matter, it's who you use it with. China is more of a world power that Mexico.

Me, personally learning Chinese probably is never going to actually help me in my life. Learning Spanish or Armenian probably would though. Just because a country could be a superpower doesn't necessarily mean that everyone would be better off learning the language. Anyway, pretty much every other country is well on their way to learning English, and many tourists and businessmen are fluent in it. Now, now, I'm not one to say "well they already know our language, let's be lazy!" all I mean is that it is less imperative in ways of communication.

Yeah, but what if China is as powerful as America? Everybody's gonna speak Chinese then. They wouldn't bother learning English.

You're using information that you cannot possibly know (the future) to base your opinion on. *Shrugs* I just don't believe that in my lifetime people are going to decide that they want to stop learning English. I mean, yea, it's possible, but when it happens then I'm sure it'll be easier to learn the language anyway, since we'd be more submersed in it in business.

No scientific evidence, but a shitload of written evidence. Maybe it's not the oldest, but still VERY old. And do you STILL think Mexico is more influential than China??

I never said that mexico was more influential. But if influence is the case, then this is a pointless argument. Latin influenced almost every language, but should we be speaking latin? I say, educate yourselves of chinese and spanish dialect.
