I forget the actual stats, but it's something like 7 out of 30+ American 5th graders couldn't say why July 4th was a special day for the US. Our culture is a mix of all cultures, so in a way, you are right. The thing with America is it's a land of immigrants. English is the country's language but people can make a pretty legit claim that they don't need to learn it, and I don't think that's good. I think communication is important and by all means, keep your native tongue too. I don't like when people move to the US, live as an American but behave as if they're in their native country. That's more like...how Americans act when they travel overseas. America does have culture, true. But a part of its culture is influenced by outside cultures. There isn't any root culture, really.
