I'm in Kitchener-Waterloo but have relatives just outside Ottawa.

Used to have some (by marriage) in that little village of Packenham nearby. If you have a chance, go there for a really peaceful sunny summer afternoon. Visit the ice cream shop! Go find the huge Catholic church and look at the large house next to it. My ex-wife's aunt (who used to be secretary to a past Prime Minister) and her friend lived there for a long time. Only two people in that big house!

As for Ottawa, for a big city, it's pretty nice! I guess they keep it spruced up for the tourists.

No, but I stopped through Ottawa about a month back! Nice city, though, shouldn't be the capital of Canada.
