Is pledging really as awful and shameful as it's portrayed to be in the media? I've always wondered that. Not that I'm thinking about joining one or anything

Hazing is actually against the rules now, so not really. FP

As if that stops it... Depends where you go.

Well, it does minimize it, at the least. FP

Nah, I don't think so anymore. It didn't sound too bad from what my sister said, but I don't know myself.

Well, for my friends initiation, they got him and 2 other joining members overly drunk, took them in the back of a jeep and went Baja-ing. They made them look at the ground the whole time and would slam on the brakes every now and then and make them chug 2 beers then do it again. The final scare was a ledge that was a drop off of about 4 feet, and at the last second they were told to look, and all they saw was the jeep going over off the side of the trail to scare the hell out of them.

That's disgusting.

That would be hazing, and should have been reported.

I'm in a Christian sorority, it's not rough at all by any means. It's meant to be a bonding experience, and it is. :) And as others have mentioned, hazing is against rules.

Seriously. It's annoying how people let that shit happen to themselves. I would refuse that sort of treatment, then report them for even attempting. Assholes.

I know some people with stories some were bad some were terrible others were enjoyable. Usually though there seems to be something unpleasent. As for the hazing thing who cares if its illegal thats dumb to think making it illegal will do anything. When it comes down to it and you are hazed that means you want to be in so bad you are not going to tell. So unless something goes wrong it would be pretty quite and no one would know

but to look at it on the other side, (having never pledged i can only assume) Isnt the whole frat experience about fitting in and bonds that are formed between your brothers, or sisters. Most of the forms of initiation are traditions. When your pledging, people don't really want to be viewed as the wuss or wimp of the group. because what frat wants a wimp? and reporting the traditions is just asking for more trouble. and besides when you get it you'll be making the new pledges do the same exact things you had to do.

Some places do haze, but mostly in the South.
