I know that Federal Work Study (FWS) helps you find a job and the government pays for part of your wages to encourage employers to hire you. The thing is, I already have an on-campus job. Will FWS do anything for me except for having the government pay for part of my wages? It's not a loan. It's not a grant. Is it even worth it?

Basically, all it does is help your tuition costs. They give you a job (if you already have it, they may just use that one instead of issuing you another one) and tell you to work so many hours a week. When I did it, I only had to work like 7 hours a week- 5 days. Something like that anyway... and then they took like $900 (however much it was) off your tuition. You can work more than the 7 hours at the place you're working, BUT you get it for yourself, it doesn't get taken off your tuition.

but what's the advantage? why not just work on your own and put that money towards your tuition? does the government not take out taxes or something?

I have no clue what the point is, since I don't make much and am exempt from taxes.

The government pays for a portion of your wages (usually like half or 3/4), so an employer would obviously be better off and more willing to hire you.
