how can people not believe not believe in god or even in a higher power. its like to me dont they have any hope in life? dont they have faith in anything? what do they think will happen when they die, when the world ends. If they dont believe there is a god then there is  not satan either, because you cant have on without the other. you cant have good without evil.

It's their choice. You don't have to understand it.

It's hard to believe in something that I cannot physically see. People use religion and god as a crutch to make them feel better about being on earth. It's all a crock of shit. You know how crazy you people look praying to the sky and the air or whatever else comes around? And what you pray for, that's a whole other story. God doesn't make things happen. People do. Living, breathing people. And confessionals? Fuck, you're not confessing your sins to god, you're confessing them to a guy who probably whacks off in the booth and thinks of your kids while you confess yourself.

well, I'm a narcissist.. and i don't believe because there's no fucking proof.. i mean there's proof of almost everything else in the world.. if the proof is "having faith" I'm sorry i can't believe it?

A godless life is not necessarily a meaningless one. More importantly, if we're concerned with truth, that doesn't matter. It's not the consequences of not believing in a higher power that are key but the reality of the situation.

what do they think will happen when they die, when the world ends.

Some believe in an afterlife, some don't.

If they dont believe there is a god then there is  not satan either, because you cant have on without the other.

Not really.

But without evil, wouldn't there just be good?

-- Posted by xxemolovingkidxx at 11:18 am on July 29, 2008

and another thing.. if theres "just one god" too believe in.. why do people claim there are so many.. as like all the different religions.. ?

confusing as hell.. so i dont bother with it :)

Lovely generalization there. What I don't get is how people believe that if one doesn't believe in God, then that person must be hopeless, unhappy, and have no desire to live.

Just because people don't believe in god doesn't mean people are hopeless and generally miserable people. Your generalization is quite fallacious.

When you see nothing but the world as it seems to be, devoid of any higher beings, and the only way you know of higher beings is by the convictions of others, and the others (theists) can't agree on what the true "higher power(s)" is(/are), what reason is there to believe? Nobody seems to be capable of giving any rational reason to swallow their revealed religion in lieu of another's. Why do we tend to see Muslims born in Muslim-majority countries, Christians born in Christian-majority countries, Buddhists born in Buddhist-majority countries? If any one religion was especially true, doesn't it seem like it should have a more universal appeal? Doesn't it seem that revealed religions are really just human constructions, designed to fit the cultural norms of a given people and not sent by something greater?

From the outside looking in, that's exactly how things seem, and that's exactly why people "can not believe" in higher powers.

Why is an atheistic world devoid of hope for you? Is it such a terrible thought that we have to make our own way in the world without a god's plan to help us? It's a terrible thought to me that you think a godless world is a hopeless world.

Why do you place such value on faith? Christianity loves to emphasize its importance, but part of growing up is learning that people have different values. "Faith" is not a virtue to everyone.

Religion is used as a crutch. Seeing as you were raised that way since you were a baby and your brain was a sponge you absorbed all these false hopes that were put into your head when you were child. Sad to tell you, but more facts behind science and evolution than this mythical creature from above.

I honestly think that religion should not be forced to learn until you are at least of legal age (18) and can make your own decisions. I have spoken to many people who are religious and didn't have a decision at the time that feel the same way.

I thought we were discussing belief in a higher power, not religion.
