I'm a pretty fit guy and I love to play sports, so I'm happy with my body the way it is. However, I could always improve upon it, and I really enjoy swimming (for about an hour every day if I have the time) so I usually do that for pure exercise. But some people recommend lifting, which is something I do not enjoy. It's repetitive and I get very little satisfaction from it, even when I start noticing progress. I don't want to be that strong, I just want to be toned and have nice arms, not guns.

So should I swim or lift weights?

Swim. You enjoy it, and it is so good for muscle.

Lift if you want big muscles. Swimming stretches your muscles out, so you may not want that.

i'd stick with the swimming because you enjoy it and it does tone the whole body. you could also look into pilates for toning your arms.

If you're rotating your workout and not doing the same lifts every week (you shouldn't because your body becomes used to the lift) it will feel far less repetitive. If your only looking for a little tone and enjoy swimming, I'd stick to the swimming, although you really should give lifting a chance.

Lifting shouldn't be something you have to force yourself to do. There are many ways to toning other than lifting. Maybe try swimming with some light weights attached, and focus on speed rather than endurance.

swimming wont build muscle. it will just define your already existing muscle. if you wannt build muscle while swimming focus on just pulling drils. maybe wear a weight belt. because honestly, unless your swimming 10,000 yards a day( i guarantee you your not) you own tbuild muscle
