Okay, so I was eating in the mall yesterday after visiting my hometown from college.  This girl was sitting near me and we just started talking. We got to flirting...until I asked her about her age.

She said she is 17 and will be turning 18 in 4 months.  I told her I was 19 and will be turning 20 in 4 days (hah.)  She didn't believe me and said I looked much younger until I showed her my college ID haha.  At that point, I started feeling a bit weird, after finding out that I've been hitting on a 17 year old this entire time.  So I finished eating started to leave.

Then she asked me for my phone number and proposed that we should hang out sometime.  Apparently she doesn't have a problem with me being older.  Well, I gave her my number and took hers as well.

But I still feel kinda weird about this.  I don't know if I should be calling her.  I mean, she IS underage and I am 20 and have been through so much more.  By the time she graduates high school, I would already be graduating from college and going into the real world and grad school.

Opinions?  Should I be feeling weird about this?

Its only three years difference, its not like your thirty and shes 15. Honestly, if you like her, then go for it. ^^

18, 21...not much difference...
But, you are right, you'll be off to the real world really soon...no use in waiting for her.

In my opinion it isn't a big deal.

-- Posted by DirtyConspiracy at 9:26 am on July 31, 2008

I am 16 and I find most of the younger girls kind of immmature. Maybe this is bothering you too?

I think you should go out with her. Its not like she's going to be with you FOREVER. The college thing, it wont bother you unless you wanna move to some other place where there is more of YOUR type of careers?

One more thing: you will be having sex in 4 months :D

-- Posted by Hontoshimu at 9:27 am on July 31, 2008

nope 3 years is fine
and if she didnt get with you there would be 2 underage people rather than 1

The age isn't the issue here, personally, I was 17 and my boyfriend was 21.  In your case, the issue is the fact that you are two completely different ages in life.

The fact that she is just finishing highschool, and you are looking through grad school can cause problems.  She's going to get into college, meet many people, and she's going to start developing herself and finding out who she wants to be and the like.  Likewise for you, while you may be focusing on your studies and looking towards the future, she may have her focuses elsewhere (depends on the person).  All in all, those things, as little as it seems, can cause problems.

The choice is yours, I don't think the age is that big of a deal.  But what your plans for the future are may NOT coordinate for her plans in the future... and if you're looking for a serious commitment, and she's just looking for a boyfriend, then again, there's going to be problems.

It's your call... weigh the scenarios, and think about what you want.  At the end of the day, it's your choice to decide what you think is best and will suit your lifestyle and what you want.

Well I know if someone over 18 has sex with someone under 18 it could be illegal in the US.
but i actually think the age difference there wouldn't be illegal because of her age. and it's not like your planning to have sex with her, just hang out.
unless you are planning to have sex with her. I think that is where the problem arises.
But she is above consent age so I think it's ok.

Yeah it's fine. If you like her go for it.

I'm 19, 20 in September.

My girlfriend just turned 18 in June.

She also just graduated in 2008 and I graduated in 2006.

I guess it all depends on compatibility and maturity of her. If she's annoying, then fuck that shit - she's stuck in high school. If she's mature and can have an intelligent convo without flirting - go for it.

She's not underage until you're 21. Then, by that time, she'll be 18 and you still wont be illegal.

Not sure about where you live, but in NYS age of consent laws are 17+ for anyone under 21 and 18+ for anyone 21 and over.

I'm 17 and my boyfriend is 23. It's fantastic. I love him and he loves me and age is very very very rarely an issue.
