AVG how ever currently using Avast! Switching back soon. =]

-- Posted by Darkane at 8:34 am on Aug. 2, 2008

I just switched from AVG to Avast to see what it's like.
So far I'd recommend either one, maybe Avast a bit more because of more protection options.

Umm...where the hell is NORTON?!?

This is for only Freeware antiviruses

-- Posted by DJ Josh at 8:36 am on Aug. 2, 2008

I've been using Windows Live One Care for over 7 months now.

AVG Free is the best free anti virus, and I'll go back when my subscription runs out.

That's not the case for me at all, I absolutely love it. It's saved my system's ass so many times it's not funny.

I have never heard of any of those

In terms of resource usage and sheer protection, Kaspersky is excellent. The problem is that it goes all fascist on your computer thinking literally anything is a virus and does so utilizing chump resources. That prevents almost everything but at a high productivity cost.

nortan dosent do shit, trust me, and McAfee is an amazing firewall.... it dose not let anything in, but the problem is it does not let anything out. i had to get something else because i kept getting agent error whenever i tried to play an online game.

Gotta be Avira. It's small, free, cheap, has brilliant heuristic rates, and the icon is simple enough to decipher (open umbrella = all good, closed umbrella = something's wrong or it's off). I've never liked AVG: the interface was confusing and the new toolbar thing is just annoying - I'll take McAfee SiteAdvisor, thankyou (at least in Firefox it doesn't demand a whole toolbar),  Avast! is good on 9x machines (about the only free AV for them, I might point out), My bank offers me free PCTools Antivirus (I'm waiting for my Trend Micro subscription to run out before installing new stuff), and the others I've never heard of (Except ClamAV, which I've never used because of it's lack of active protection). And there endeth my rant\ad for Avira (I don't mean to, I'm just passionate about these things, you know.)
