I need something to merge 2 t.v. cables so they it will be longer. Currently the cable I have is not long enough so I need to connect the 2 somehow. Anyone know what I need to buy?

Is this just standard TV coaxial or some other cable?

If it is just standard TV coaxial just take off the adapters and find some that match together and put the wire back through.

Just go to Radio Shack and buy one of these...

Chances are you have one laying around the house already

Sure, tell the person the easy way. My way is more creative.

What kind of cable?

If its a coaxial cable, then  you just need the coupler that was already posted.

If its another type, you may need a switch box. However, buying a longer cable would probably be cheaper.

As already said, depends on the type of cable, even if it is coax, there are different standards, like some of the triple and quad shield cables for digital.

I know here atleast the most common would be PAL or F connectors, but then as I said, there are cables standards like RG6/U, RG6/UQ and RG59.

Then there's other connectors like BNC and RCA... other standards, like RG58.

Most likely it would be RG59 or RG6 with whatever connector you guys use in the US... probably not a PAL (Belling-Lee) connector but that's pretty much the canon thing over here.

Anyway then, I'm assuming you need to connect male to male.

Either get a female - female adaptor, or replace one male - male cable with a male - female cable.

Just be careful in that I've seen some cheap adaptors that made the signal worse.

Only worry about the cable standards if you make up your own cable, you can get twist on connectors usually. I wouldn't worry about crimping for a one off. Probably a lot easier to just buy one, but make sure it's up to scratch, like some very old tv cables with low shielding aren't suitable for digital.
