-- Posted by AvenueQ at 7:31 am on Aug. 11, 2008 Okay, I've been playing for many years now and I don't generally have trouble with this sort of stuff, but I'm really confused as to what tempo this piece should be taken. The beginning is marked "Quarter note = 112" which is self explanatory, but then the time signature modulates from 4/4 to 6/8. My guess is to keep going at the same tempo, and I'm assuming the eighth not gets the beat (because it is in 6/8) but then again sometimes the beat is meant for the dotted quarter note Also, later on in this piece the tempo is marked with "A tempo: dotted quarter note = 88" which furthers my feeling that in the beginning the dotted quarter note gets the beat. And on top of that "A tempo" means "first tempo" which would mean that that was the tempo at the initial 6/8 time.
