I think today, with a bunch of little boys and girls going missing and found murdered, I think 9 is a good age.

Highschool Personally, I think kids should have to pay for it. I mean, I always have. Its not that hard to get a job, or find random work.

i'd say when they go to high school, so 11 in the uk. mainly for a saftey option, i mean if they miss their school bus, or are going to be late, they'll need to ring someone.

Freshman in high school. Middle schools are ususally localized enough to where its within reasonable walking distance, or they will take care of you if you can't get a way home or something, high school ususally is where the emergencies happen. The sports become more intense, fights become worse, etc...

I got mine when i was 8. A stupid age though, should have got it at about 11 i think. It was the size of a brick, had a plastic arial on it and had an orange and black screen...

I'd say middle 7th grade is all right, but no earlier. It has more to do with how active and busy that youngster is. If he does extracurriculars and has lessons and goes to many diffeent places, he'll need a cell earlier than his school-home-school-home friends

I wanted to get my nephew a firefly one for his 4th birthday and my sister said no. :( I thought he would like it. He has a digital camera and is fine with that. Anyways, there's no need until like 13 or 14, when you start actually going places without your parents.

I think they suck at any age.

qft. there's also a lot of peer pressure if you havent got a phone even if its like 5yrs old. Its better to have one at least for your parents sake to know they can get through to you.

15 at the earliest.

Depends on when they need it. If their parents are divorced and they go on a trip by themselves on a plane and when they get back their parent is not at the gate...then yes. If they don't have any extracurricular activities at school and don't get out very often, probably they're too young. In a shorter sentence, when they start going places with friends or by themselves more often.
