http://www.bustedtees.com/savedarfur The description says "Don't people know Australia when they see it?" but why shouldn't the rest of Africa save Darfur? And why Australia specifically? Soz but I need the social context of this explained to me.

It's funny because most people have no idea where Darfur is.

Uh that is South America on that shirt, I think it is being funny, like al ot of people are like "SAVE DARFUR", when the don't even know wtf Darfur looks like on the map.
-- Posted by VitalExistence at 6:53 pm on Aug. 12, 2008
what is darfur?
-- Posted by mattchew at 6:53 pm on Aug. 12, 2008
Cause its a picture of south america, saying save darfur, obviously in africa, so it adds to the supposed hilarity by asking about australia
-- Posted by Solitude at 6:54 pm on Aug. 12, 2008
Why do they have a map of south america? WTF?!
-- Posted by breathesrain at 6:54 pm on Aug. 12, 2008
it's implying that people are being ignorant and aren't aware of politics [which is depressingly true. nobody in the US knows what Tibet actually wants, but they go on about free tibet and get themselves arrested in china.] the picture of south america on the shirt? They're trying to shame us into being more aware. Good strategy, actually. And if you're just going to say that someone else should do all the work it will never get done. i wonder why it's south america when sudan is in africa, though...that's why i thought it was africa at first. I looked at a map, though, and that's definitely south america.... double entendre, perhaps?

well i don't get it either and i don't get why they have a picture of all of Africa when Darfur is just one area

Oh lol. It looked like Africa to me and I guarantee that's what 90% of people who see that shirt will see if they don't know it's supposed to be funny, because your brain auto corrects images if they don't fit the context.

I think it's implying that people would like to seem like they're helpful and whatnot, when they actually don't know what's going on. Which is why they said, "Don't people know Australia when they see it?", and have a picture of South America instead of Africa.

It really annoys me when I see people wearing "Save Darfur" shirts. Am I heartless because I absolutely refuse to wear shirts like that? I don't wear T-shirts that say Save Darfur, WWF, Stop Global Warming, or any of that other shit. It's not that I don't care about that stuff, but there are BETTER ways to help a cause. But is it just me, or do most of the people not even care? It's just becoming a trend. Bimbo 1: "LULZ, I luv ur shirt! Save Darfur, yeah!" Bimbo 2: "I luv ur shirt 2. Hooray 4 PETA! Uh...what's PETA?" Bimbo 1: "LOL. IDK. But the shirt goes gr8 w/my eyes. What's Darfur?" Bimbo: "IDK either. But I saw sum ppl on TV wearin dem." Gahhh. Shoot me.
