I just moved into to my dorm at college and I have 3 other room mates, so far only one has moved in. but my concern is meeting people, everyone seems to be here with their parents and stuff moving in. Idk what to do, I really want to meet people but I don't know how or where to start. I don't know how to deal with the awkwardness of meeting new people especially girls. When i say hey to a new girl thats all it is, we say hey then thats it. And when we do say more than hey, it's really tense and just kind of like "sooo...." you know? nothing really to talk about, i try commenting on things around and being funny but i just feel like a jackass and it doesn't seem to work, any ideas?

Everyone will be there with their parents. It's typical. Just introduce yourself to your roommates. Ask about their majors, where they're from. That sort of stuff. Remember that they are feeling just as awkward as you are.

After everyone has moved in the parents won't be there anymore and you'll be able to meet people. Chill out. Everyone is trying to meet new people. They're all in the same position.

Tell them a bit about yourself, usual questions to know where you're from, what you're taking, if they keep tlakign then you keep talking. Once you throw all your balls, they gotta throw it back, or the gmae ends, since you rna out of b alls to throw. Anything - could be used for conversation, though jokes usually have to wait for 2nd place.
