Ive actually found a police force that doesnt require that you have resided in the UK for 3 yeas prior to applying. Its the Merseyside police force. But just to check, i only need to be a British citizen right, not a resident? Are you a British Citizen, member of the EC/EEA, Commonwealth citizen or foreign national resident in the UK free of restrictions? If you answer no to this question you will not be eligible to apply.

Yes, you do "resident of the UK free of restrictions". But it's not like you can be a British Citizen if you don't live here (other than getting citizenship by virtue of parents being British).

I think you just answered your own question. :) The bold is pretty clear.

Well are your parents British then but you live overseas or something? Otherwise I don't see how you could have gotten a British passport without living here. As for your original question, the wording seems to imply that as long as you have a residential address where you live in the UK (not restricted by the amount of time you've been here) you are eligible. Otherwise I don't see how you would apply for a job if you don't live here at all.

here it is rephrased on the self-assesment questionairre: you need to be a british citizen or a member of the EC/EEA. Commonwealth citizens and foreign nationals who are resident in the UK free of restrictions can also apply. Do i qualify? w/o being resident in the UK?

It seems so. But the wording is slightly ambiguous anyway, so I'd phone up the applications office or whatever the contact number they have listed and ask them flat out. They should be able to give you a better answer.

You qualify, but Merseyside is one of the more demanding forces physically, and mentally. I know a lot of good people from the force, and they're taking flack at the moment. Are they even recruiting?
