Pages: 1 2 3 4 5 6  Next -- Posted by Prince o palities at 12:00 pm on Aug. 19, 2008 Sensationalized title aside, African-Americans have a bit of a debt of gratitude to antebellum slave owners.  Sure, they were grossly abusive, treated the slaves like animals, forced them into unreal amounts of labor, but they did that to them.  Not to the modern black person.  The modern black American, without the slave owner, would more than likely be living in a third world country.  Outside the slave trade, there was not a significant amount of emigration out of Africa. You also don't know that if they stayed in their native origins that it could have blossomed and the place could be an MEDC rather than a LEDC. Certainly. If we're opening up speculation, a lot of things could have happened. However, even with Western involvement, Africa is still woefully behind the world technologically and the emigration rates for the intervening two centuries would suggest that the ratio of blacks to whites in first world countries would still be much lower in the absence of the slave trade. You speak... truth, in a very crude and foul way.  Every person who is angered and confused by African Americans who feel that they deserve penance for their forefather's suffering, I'm sure, will somewhere deep down understand you. Africa would have probably been a very lucrative successful country right now if it wasnt for THOSE DAMN WHITE PEOPLE. That is why it always cracks me up when I read about "return to Africa" movments etc...I cannot imagine the entire black population of the US moving back to Africa.
