These sports have been around for a while in the olympics so just because USA is loosing in the gold medal standings you can take it out?? the chinese gymnast won gold yesterday because she won the tiebreaker ove a USA gymnast and the NBC announcers couldnt accept defeat they kept raving about how the tie breaker is incorrect blah blah blah. WHO CARES JUST ACCEPT DEFEAT the judges would know more about gymnastics than them so they need to respect the other gymnast because she won fairly also, why didnt they argue the micheal phelps race because it also looked like a tie between him and the othe swimmer from serbia. Gymnastics is inherently subjective. X2 Both Nastia and the Chinese gymnast did exceptionally well on the uneven bars, however, the Chinese girl not only made the same small error during her routine as Nastia [which was the only visible error Nastia made] but also took a step after she landed. The system designed was bad. It should have come down to a tie breaker decided by another routine, not a computer formula. -- Posted by OodleNoodle at 3:52 am on Aug. 20, 2008 I completely, 100% agree with the OP.   Now I personally, thought that Nastia should have at least tied. HOWEVER, difficulty of skills matters as well. You can be a diver and get 10.0s on an easy dive and another diver can get 7.0s on an incredible difficult dive and beat you.   THAT is why the Chinese girl won. Is because the difficulty was taken into account. If it were a case of Jamie Sale and David Pelletier in Salt Lake, where the difficulty level was higher AND the performance was flawless vs. a lower difficulty routine a fall (the Russians) that beat them, THEN it would be a serious travesty. But the Chinese girl had higher difficulty and she ended up with a higher execution score (the B score) which is why she won. If tied, the B score is used. Pages: 1 2  Next
