This is the conversation that ensued. My Best Friend: So, why have you dragged me out here on this miserable day? Me: We need to talk. My Best Friend: About what? Me: You know what. Why have you been ignoring me? My Best Friend: Because I hate you. Me: Why!? What did I do? My Best Friend: ... Me: I'm not even asking you to stop hating me, I just want to know what I did. My Best Friend: ... Me: Why. Do. You. Hate. Me? My Best Friend: Because you're beautiful. Me: [I thought I didn't hear her right] What? I'm eludeful? That's not even a word. Besides, when have I eluded you?-- My Best Friend: No, beautiful. B-E-A-U-T-I-F-U-L. God, you're so dense. Me: ... [I was tearing up here......] My Best Friend: [rolls eyes] Don't cry. Me: I'm not beautiful, Jacquie, I'm average maybe a notch above average. But I'm nothing special. My Best Friend: What ever. You're skinny, you're tall and you're pretty. I'm short, fat and ugly-- Me: That's not true. My Best Friend: You're just saying that because you have to. Me: No, I'm not. [I really was telling the truth...] My Best Friend: Stop it. You're just making me feel worse. No one can fix it, no me, not you: I'm ugly and that's the truth. [Awkward Silence] Me: You hate me because I'm pretty? My Best Friend: ... Me: How am I supposed to fix that? After that it was just awkward goodbyes... . . . I'll never forget that conversation. Well, at least she honest with me...
