I am wondering if any of you have mixed depakote (or similars) with alcohol and how you reacted? Drinking alcohol with this drug will increase the effects of the sedative properties of the drug. You could pass out. It will also depress your drive to *breathe* as well as your heart rate, not to mention other brain functions like concentration, so DO NOT attempt to drive!!! Just don't do anything like driving and don't drink too much, and you'll be fine. -- Posted by Poker Shark at 10:59 pm on Aug. 20, 2008 Just have one standard drink (1 beer, 1 cooler, 1 shot of hard liquor or a small glass of wine) and wait half an hour. If you're still sober have another and wait another half hour etc. until you figure out how much your tolerance to alcohol has been lowered. You might get drunk off one drink! -- Posted by Rickenbacker at 9:30 am on Aug. 21, 2008 You can drink small amounts and be okay on antipsychotics. That is straight from my doctor. Drinking more than that however will potentiate sedation and could be dangerous. BTW- Depakote is not an antipsychotic it is a anticonvulsant used as a mood stabilizer.
