So our Gay-Straight Alliance is trying to brainstorm some ideas of things that we could do for fundraising and getting the word out there, so I was wondering if you guys had any ideas or if you are involved in GSA, what kinds of things do you do at your college? So far we're thinking of getting speakers and having a dance and stuff...any ideas would be AWESOME!

There are thousands of them around the country in high schools and colleges (and a few in middle schools). Get an education, hun.

Something that won't make enemies, so nothing overt. Don't do pride stuff, or things similar to that.

Erm...not to burst your idiotic bubble, but it's something that does, and is working, there are a thousand GSA's around everywhere.

Don't do stereotypical "pride" stuff. Do some new and more interesting things.

1)  Perhaps put on workshops that show how many gay men don't fit stereotypes? Perhaps get a speaker who talks about ALL sorts of diversity and many types of discrimination (race, gender, nationality, sexual orientation), and about minority discrimination AGAINST the majority, and so on.

2) See if you can find a gay chamber of commerce sort of thing in your area, perhaps you can get some professionals to talk in the high school about their jobs, and also a bit about how being gay affects their professional life (if it does). This is a big draw for kids interested in professional life (which should be all students), and for gay students concerned about how their orientation will affect them in the future.

bake sales. We have lots of bake sales at theater evens, you just have to wrap everything individually... they tend to work really well.

I'm doing an Action Week; not turning out so well.
(my town has more rednecks than a million tourists on a desert in Africa)

My main focus was a hot chocolate drive.
Each cup has the story of Lawrence King on it.

I'm in a club at my college that is pretty much the same thing as a GSA...it's called CARE (Creating Awareness Reaching Equality)...

We've had movie nights, speakers, an AIDS awareness fashion show...

In the spring we're going to do the Day of Silence and a bunch of other things as well.

Hope that helps!
